The pain, the grief

bruises, discolor, marks

abuse, said it all at once

wonder why this happened

She fought for herself,

screamed until death

no relief

pain

it won’t vanish so soon.

The hurt, no one believed

The curse, never revealed

It happened in a dark place

underneath a banyan tree.

This poem is written on the basis of a rape case which took place in Saria village, Gujarat, on 5th January 2020. This case wasn’t much talked about, just a little article on the left side of a newspaper. It occurred to a girl, 19 years of age. She was coming home in the middle of the night; she was drugged near her college campus area. She somehow managed to get out of there, her parents disowned her because she didn’t follow the rules of getting back home before sunset. She wandered around in pain and the rapists found her, she was raped again and again under a banyan tree and then hung on the same.

Her post-mortem report was faked by the doctors. Later then it was declared and, then revealed. This is sad, even doctors are involved with the rapists. She was an innocent, college going, 19 year old girl. It’s not only about this girl. It’s about every other girl going through such a scenario. It’s even more sad to hear that parents didn’t care about all this. Why aren’t women given the same freedom as men are?

Women need justice.
