Education is pursued by every person irrespective of their gender, caste, religion and social status. One pursues education to fulfil their dreams, passion and to earn oneself a happy living. In our country education formally means going to educational institutions and acquiring qualifications. Education does not always need to point out to going to schools, colleges/universities and getting a degree. The definition of education can simply be put into like this:
IT IS AN ACT OF SELF DUTY THAT ONE PURSUADES TO BE RADIANT AND TO BE MORAL
Education need not always lead a person in the path of huge wealth or make him someone who always outwits the others. It should aim to make a person aware of their surroundings, think by oneself, be self-reliant and self-sufficient.
Education helps a person to be moral. It brings out a person from the darkness of Ignorance and widens one’s thinking ability. Education helps a person to make better decisions intellectually. Education brings out maturity in a person and adds values to life.
Education should teach us to be selfless, be kind and spread the fragrance of love and affection. In India, all the citizens are given the gift of receiving free education till the age of 14. However, the objective of “increasing literacy” has been more of a “quantitative” function than a “qualitative” function. The aim of education should be towards developing a quality of intelligence over the quantity of intelligence. Education is available in all walks of life and learning is a continuous process in human life.
Quality education is one which aims at rationalizing the minds, the one that teaches us that we all are equal, the one that teaches tolerance, the one that helps to find our true potential, the one that brings out the colors from our inside and help us paint the whole world.
As said by Marian Wright Edelman, “education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it”.
