People say, "A heartfelt laugh is better than a blush". Rachel was a smart and a confident girl who always followed her heart. She was the kind of a girl who would go to the moon and back for her loved ones. Her friends could always count on her. Akansha was Rachel's best friend. They were more like a family!! The first thing they would do as soon as they woke up was, call each other. They knew that even when they have no one they would have each other. They used to go to the same college, study together and spent almost the entire day together.
It was just another regular day at college when Akansha's brother, Ayaan, had come to meet her. He was tall, fair and had deep brown eyes. He was Drop. Dead. Gorgeous. This was the moment when he saw Rachel for the very first time. He felt butterflies in his stomach. He had never seen someone as beautiful as her. He gazed at her in astonishment. After that day, he kept looking for reasons to hang out with his sister and Rachel, of course. The more time he spent with her the more he started liking her. Rachel and Ayaan were really good friends now. She knew what was right for him and cared for him. This is what made Ayaan believe that she was the right girl for him. He knew that if someone understood him as much as his sister does, it was Rachel. Ayaan had started falling in love and he wasn't afraid to express it. With her, he was vulnerable yet the best version of himself. When he was with her, everything felt like a dream.
Whereas, on the other hand, deep down in her heart, Rachel knew that she liked him. But she also knew that letting romantic feelings in her relationship with Ayaan would end up ruining her friendship with him. She knew that falling in love with her best friends brother would be 'breaking the girl code'. So she kept her feelings to herself.
Ayaan finally confessed his love to her. He was as happy as Larry. He had never felt so relived. Rachel didn't know what to say. She felt like this was the end of her friendship with Ayaan because never in a thousand years would she accept his proposal and betray Akansha also ruin her friendship with Ayaan. But she also knew that rejecting his proposal would mean pushing him away from her as its not easy to be friends with someone who turned a cheek to your kiss or cut your heart strings. So, instead of losing two friends, she chose losing one. She told him "What I have with you now is alot more than these feelings. You're one of my closest friends and I wouldn't want anything in the world to ruin that." Ayaan was tongue-tied. His happiness was shattered. He didn't know how to feel. He was numb because he loved her way too much. He left without saying a word.
Rachel's sister knew how much she liked Ayaan. When she got to know about this, she asked her, "why didnt you tell him that you feel the same? Why on earth would you choose to be friends with someone you love?"
Rachel said, "Love makes you cry, but friendship always finds a way to make you smile. True love might be rare but true friendship is rarer. And as much as I want him to be my one true love I don't know whether he will be but I do know that he's my true friend. Having a soulmate is not always about love. You can find your soulmate in a friendship too. And I think I've found mine."
