Few days ago i was going through articles that were related to black colour and there was this particular paragraph that made me write this article. It was a conversation between the writer, his son and his wife.It said:-

‘This week, I asked my wife and five-year-old son what they think when they hear the word “black”. The kid said “scary things and demons”,my wife said “elegance and sophistication.” For some reason, The Devil wears Prada came to my mind”

As we’re aware of the fact that racism or discrimination on the basis of one’s skin colour is one of the social issues that many people have been facing since decades,it got me thinking that WHY IS BLACK COLOUR CONSIDERED TO BE BAD OR IT’S ALWAYS ASSOCIATED WITH SOMETHING WRONG?

There are quite a few superstitions or evil things/actions based on the colour- black.

You’ve probably heard that if a black cat crosses your path, it’s unlucky.

Then if someone dies everyone wears black coloured clothes for the funeral as its a colour that expresses sadness, grief, death.

‘Black’ magic, it’s traditionally referred to the use of supernatural powers or magic for evil and selfish purposes.

It’s also said that one shouldn’t wear black clothes on auspicious days.

I really don’t understand how does the colour black define a thing or a humans’ nature. Because in my opinion someone’s skin colour shouldn’t tell you how they are as a human. The actual problem here is that black colour has been labelled as ‘fear, power, evil, aggression, death, ugly, etc.’ Its like the black colour itself has become self explanatory.

The death of George Floyd that sparked many protests all over the country included a number of high profile celebrities like Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Halsey, Cole Sprouse, Harry Styles, Ellen DeGeneres, Jennifer Lopez. They marched alongside activists and have been using their platform to act against racism and social injustice.

For justice to be served for George Floyd let’s sign this petition https://www.justiceforbigfloyd.com/#petition

To stop racism, why don’t we start from our own country?

Let us sign this petition https://www.change.org/p/stop-racism-in-indian-media and make sure that we can make a change in our country.
